Efforts are underway to repair the tsunami monument in Male’.
An official of the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure told Sun Online that parts of the monument had started rusting, as it had not been repaired for many years.
He said that the monument was prone to rust as it was placed in the sea, and parts of it were not constructed using stainless steel.
He further said that efforts were ongoing to repair the pier connecting the monument to the land, as it was also heavily damaged due to rust.
The tsunami monument was constructed following the tsunami in 2004, in commemoration of the Maldivians who died in the incident.
