The four suspects involved in the murder of Ahmed Mazin, Dhiggaamaage, Noonu Miladhoo, have been charged with terrorism.
Mazin was stabbed while he was at Adi Park in Male’ on 2 August 2014, and died that night while receiving treatment.
The Criminal Court Spokesperson told Sun Online that the suspects are Hanif Imthiyaz, Haa Alifu Baarah; Ismail Usham, Alifu Alifu Maalhos; Midh’hath Ibrahim, Gaafu Alifu Dhevvadhoo; and Moosa Hussain, Thaa Vilufushi.
Charges have been brought against them with reference to Article 2 (a), under Article 6 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act.
Article 2 (a) states that the act of killing or causing any bodily harm or intent to carry out such actions to persons with the intention of creating fear or terror or with a political motive, shall be construed as an act of terrorism.
Article 6 (a) states that persons found guilty of an act of terrorism resulting in the loss of a life shall be sentenced to death, life imprisonment, or banishment for life.
The Criminal Court Spokesperson said that the four suspects are in police custody.
Mazin was stabbed in 11 places, and died in the ICU at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
