Islamic Affairs Minister calls to refrain from activities that could disturb independence

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has urged Maldivians to refrain from all activities that might interfere with independence and unity in the Maldives, and slow down development for the country.

In his address to the nation on the occasion of National Day, Dr Shaheem stressed the importance of solidarity and social justice to ensure progress for the country. He said that all citizens, including youth, must be given the chance to participate in nation-building, and that peace cannot be guaranteed in a country that lacks these factors.

He said that Maldivians’ solidarity was based on the principles of Islam, and reminded that it is the responsibility of all generations to do everything possible to embrace, sustain, and defend these principles.

He also called on everyone to support and assist the efforts by President Abdulla Yameen to facilitate new levels of development for the country, for the sake of future generations.
