President extends National Day greetings

President Abdulla Yameen has extended greetings to all Maldivian citizens on the occasion of National Day.

In his message, the President said that the purpose of celebrating National Day was to commemorate the spirit of sustained independence.

He said that the historic jihad by Boduthakurufaanu and other national heroes was symbolic of their absolute love and respect for the country, and urged all Maldivian citizens to recognise with gratitude and happiness, their honourable services to the nation.

He called on everyone to find encouragement in the actions of national heroes, and to work with sincerity and renewed resolve to guarantee an independent nation for future generations.
