The Action Committee of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has on Monday passed to remove its former chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik as a member of the party for disobeying the party whip-line repeatedly.
Speaking in a press conference held at MDP office by The Action Committee of MDP on Monday, Mohamed Shifaz, Deputy Leader of MDP said that decision to remove Moosa from MDP came after he repeatedly went against the three line whips given by the PG group. Apart from this, Moosa not being accountable to the Action Committee during investigation of the issue was also a reason to remove Moosa from MDP, said Shifaz.
National council of MDP has decided to take action to six MPs including Moosa, for voting against the three line whip passed by the party not to vote for removal of Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussein and Judge Muthasim Adnan from Supreme Court at the parliament.
Moosa did not attend the sitting in which votes were taken to remove the judges.
Shifaz said that if Moosa had been accountable to the committee, they would know Moosa’s view on his decision, while Moosa has stated to the media that he did not attend to the committee because the committee was violating the rules of the party.
While Moosa has said that the National Council of the party is operated by a group who follows directions of Mohamed Nasheed, the leader of the party, Shifaz said that MDP is a huge party and the party is operated with instructions from the National Council.
Actions were also taken against the other five members who disregarded the three line whip. In that regard, measures taken against Vaikaradhoo MP Mohamed Nazim was an apology from him before 1 January 2015 and a suspension of three months from any vote taken within MDP PG group, Abdulla Yameen, Velidhoo MP, Abdul Baaree Abdulla, kurendhoo MP, Ahmed Marzooq, Felidhoo MP and Ibrahim Nasir, Mulaku MP was also asked to apologize from party members and a suspension of six months from any vote taken within MDP PG group was imposed.
