More than 400 Maldivian students have done Quran, Islam and Dhivehi exam for the first time at Maldivian Educational and Cultural Center (MECC) in Sosun Villa of Colombo in Sri Lanka.
Report cards of the first exam conducted at MECC were given to the students on Wednesday between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Abdul Rasheed Adam, Administrator of MECC, which was established in July 2014 said on Wednesday to Sun Online that students have performed well in the first exam conducted.

Administrator said that even though majority of the students have performed well, some students did not get good results because some students are not so fluent in Dhivehi language.
Administer added that there were very week students who were unable to comprehend spoken or written Dhivehi language. However he said that all the students have progressed with lot of effort, cooperation and support from parents.
A teacher who was interviewed also mentioned that the only problem they face is that some students cannot speak in Dhivehi and hence performance of these students in subjects other than Dhivehi language were also low due to this problem.
A parent of two students of MECC said that it was a good decision of the present government to provide opportunities to teach and learn Islam, Dhivehi, Quran and Maldivian Culture and Tradition to Maldivian students residing in other countries.
Parents residing in Sri Lanka had to spend an average of 2,000 Lankan Rupees (MVR235) on each of the subjects; Dhivehi, Islam and Quran to provide home schooling for their children at home for these three subjects.
While MECC has given report cards on Wednesday after teaching for a total of 44 days in the final term of 2014, next academic year will commence on 12 January 2015.
Exam for those students who were unable to sit in the term exam for various reasons will be held on 16 December 2014 at 2:00 p.m. This is the last chance that can be given to those students, and students who fail to attend this exam would be repeated in the same grade, said the Administrator.
MECC provides education of Dhivehi, Islam and Quran for Maldivian students from pre-school to grade 9. These three subjects would be taught for students of grade 10 as well in next year.
