The Task Force created by President Abdullah Yameen to handle the water crisis faced by Malé has announced that new panel boards for the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) would arrive in Malé from Singapore.
Tap water system in Malé, one of the world’s most densely populated cities with a population of no less than 130,000, failed due to a fire accident last Thursday at MWSC, the sole water supplier to the city, in which the panel boards which give power to the desalination plants were damaged.
Muhammad Naazim, Chairman of the water crisis management Task Force and the Minister of Defence and National Security, told Sun Online today that the new panel boards have been custom-designed and made in Singapore to fit MWSC’s engine rooms. He said that the panel boards would be flown from Singapore to Malé tonight in a Sri Lankan military aircraft.
“The new panel boards would arrive tonight, and we will begin installation works as soon as possible. As of now, water is supplied for a few hours every day with some panels which were in a condition to be repair and used to some extent after the severe fire accident”, said Naazim.
According to the Task Force, a technical team from Singapore is here, in working to repair the panel boards to a minimum usable condition and also in dealing with other technical issues at MWSC.
