The Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), the sole water supply company in Malé the capital of the Maldives has got some issues that needs to be addressed and solved, said President Abdullah Yamin Abdul Qayyoom.
Speaking to the press today at the President’s Office, President Yameen said that MWSC was formed during the 1980s, and that the situation and needs of the city of Malé have drastically changed, which the company must follow up.
“This company was formed during the 1980s. The company was designed and built with the then population and conditions in Malé, which have changed much, and changes are due to the structure of the company as well”, said the President.
The President that the government has focused on supply the maximum amount of water to nearly 150,000 people living in Malé and that every effort was being made to make tap water at homes available once every four hours.
The President said that he wishes to convey deep gratitude to friends in the international community for being extremely supportive and generous to the Maldives at this time of crucial challenges in foreign relations, and that he would also like to convey thanks to Maldivian business organizations and other parties which have lend helping hands, in the name of the people of the Maldives.
The President said that this is a time for unity, and that he would urge all to not try to abuse this condition for vested interests and agendas. He also said that it is inappropriate, in accord with the interests of the people, to use a crisis faced by the water supply company for unfitting agendas.
