Sun Online wins Media Council election

Last slot of Maldives Media Council (MMC), which consists of 15 members has been won by Hussain Hassan of Sun Online.

Hussain has won this election held at Home Ministry today by competing with Ahmed Rifau of Weekly Magazine. Out of 57 votes, Hussain received 32 votes while Rifau received 24 votes. There was one invalid vote.

Today’s election was the third effort made to elect members for MMC. In the first effort, five candidates have got same amount of votes while Hussain and Rifau got equal votes during the second effort.

MMC consists of 15 members. Among the 15 members, eight members are elected from media and seven members are elected from the public.

Home Ministry said that the meeting to select a President and a Vice President for MMC will be held tomorrow and the 15 members elected to MMC have been invited to this meeting.
