Two officers with serious injuries have been brought to Male’ among the five officers who have been attacked by prisoners at Kaafu Maafushi Prison.
Giving information to Sun Online, Media Coordinator of Home Ministry Thazmeel Abdulsamad said that two officers injured seriously from an incident occurred at Maafushi Prison at around 10:00 pm on Monday have been brought to Male’ and they are under treatment at hospital. He said that the other three officers were also treated in Maafushi and arrangements to bring them to Male’ was in progress.
Thazmeel said that heads of four officers of Maldives Correctional Services were injured and an Officer’s arm has been swollen at around 10:00pm on Monday when the officers entered Unit three of the Prison for head count before bed time.
Thazmeel said that additional officers entered the Unit three after the prisoners interrupted and started creating violence when an Officer went to the Unit for counting heads.
He said that when additional Officers entered the Unit, prisoners have assaulted the Officers.
No prisoner was injured in that incident, said Thazmeel.
The case is under investigation by Serious and Organize Crime Department of Maldives Police Service.
