Police officer arrested in major drug operation released

Criminal Court has released the police officer arrested in major drug operation in Lhaviyani Naifaru.

Police media official said to Sun Online that the police officer was released on 19 November when was taken to the court to extend his detention period.

“Court released him because according to them, there was no reason to keep him under police custody to investigate the case further” said the Official.

However, the Official said that the case was still under investigation.

Police have said that the police officer and another eight people were arrested in a special drug operation by the police in Lhaviyani Atoll.

According to police, all the suspects, including a key drug dealer, were above the age of 18. Police found 16 bullet-sized packets containing a substance believed to be drugs, and 145 packets containing oil believed to be drugs from that operation.
