Two defense officers, Police man arrested over drug case

Five people including two defense officers and a police man have been arrested with drugs and equipment believed to be used to pack drugs.

At a press conference at Iskandar Koshi today, Head of Drug Enforcement Department of the Maldives Police Service, superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan said that five people were arrested near “Avista Café”.

Two defense officers of ages 28 and 24, a police officer of age 28 and two other men of ages 24 and 32 were arrested over the case.

Shifan said that 18 rubber bullets believed to be Heroine and materials used to pack drugs have been found in the operation. He said that the police man involved in the case was arrested from Sinamale’ flat where he resides and drugs and the materials used to pack drugs have been found from his residential.

By giving information about five operations conducted by the police, Shifan said that 27 cellophane pieces of hashish oil and 23 plastic packets of heroine were found at around 9:40 am today and a 25 year old and a 21 year old men were arrested over that case.

Shifan stated that a Bangladeshi was arrested on 22 November for trying to smuggle approximately one kilo gram of cannabis leaves via air transport. He said that additional 29 year old Bangladeshi form male’ has been arrested on suspicion of having involved in the case.

Apart from this, he said that 925 grams of cannabis leaves have been found from a 20 year old Bangladeshi who arrived in Maldives on 21 November from Sri Lankan Airlines.

Shifan said that Hulhumale’ lagoon area is being checked by police on accusation of having alcohol and drugs in that area. While a person has been arrested over the case, a bottle of alcohol has been found in that area. Shifan did not mention any more details regarding the case as the operation is being carried out.
