Attorney General: Youths

Attorney General Mohamed Anil has said that opinions of youths have to be considered in formulating policies and regulations of Maldives.

In the ceremony held at Bandos Island Resort on Tuesday, to inaugurate the annual Youth Leadership Program organized by Democracy House, Attorney General said that government has to provide additional opportunities for youths and the opportunities provided at present have to be improved.

He also stated that it was important to know and consider the view of youths in formulating policies and regulations. Attorney General stated that instead of others deciding on what is good for youths, it is essential to identify what the youths need from them.

Attorney General said that as young people are the real investment of the country, training opportunities to empower them have to be facilitated.

Handbook to express voice of youths to policy makers has been inaugurated at the ceremony by Attorney General.

A campaign in the name of “Policy 22” has also been inaugurated on Tuesday to convey the content in the handbook to the people at policy level.

Youth Leadership Program aims to instill leadership skills in youths, to familiarize youths on social issues, responsibilities, rights and democracy, develop communication skills in youths and to aware youths on how Parliament works. This program is conducted by joint effort of Parliament, UNDP and UNFPA.

40 participants from 17 atolls have participated in the fifth Youth Leadership Program which will be held for a duration of one week in Bandos Island Resort.
