Following MDP President and former President Mohammad Nasheed’s statement that he made a mistake in ordering the military-enforced arrest of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdullah Muhammad, MDP’s prominent leader Moosa Manik has called for an internal audit of the party to be conducted soon.
Addressing his call to the National Council of the Party, Moosa Manik, the Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis, said that the truth must be investigated following Nasheed’s statement.
Speaking to Sun Online, Moosa said that any incumbent ministers in the cabinet must obey the President. “The cabinet must respect the President. They have to obey the President’s orders”, said Moosa, who has already announced that he would compete at MDP’s presidential primary in 2018.
Answering a question posed by a reporter of Sun Online this morning at a press conference, former President Nasheed said that political leaders should not have opted for rash decisions following Chief Judge Abdullah’s decisions.
Nasheed returned home from a meeting of the leaders of International Democratic Union held at Seoul, South Korea, and today’s press conference was held upon his arrival.
“What I want to say here is, I now see that Abdullah Muhammad, Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, is a man who thinks deeply when dealing with issues that come before him. It is not the wisest course of action for politicians to take rash and sudden actions following his decisions”, said Nasheed.
Nasheed also said that his government’s actions in enforcing a military arrest and detention of Abdullah Muhammad for 22 days at Girifushi, the largest military training facility in the Maldives, was a mistake.
