Disabled persons to be given preferential treatment in housing schemes

The Ministry of Housing has announced that disabled persons would be given 15 additional points in government housing schemes when points are given in selection processes. The Ministry said that this is in line with the government’s policy to give disabled persons preference in social programs such as providing housing.

Speaking at a press conference held today at the Ministry, Dr. Muhammad Muizz, the Minister, said that the new policy would come into immediate effect, and that all future assessment processes under governments Housing Program would be done in accordance with it. He said that disabled persons would be given the benefit when and if they produce a document from a government body stating their condition.

“There might come up a scenario where a guardian has under his or her care more than one disabled person. In such situations also, there would be just an additional 15 points, and that would be added to the total accumulated by the applicant on the basis of normal assessments”, said the Minister.

The Minister also said that those who have applied for currently open scheme opportunities and are waiting for selection would have the chance to submit a letter in order to gain the benefit of the new policy.

Application deadline for the currently open scheme is 24th February next year.
