First HRCM regional office established at Addu City

First regional office of Human Rights Commission of Maldives has been established in Hithadhoo of Addu City in order to widen the service provided by the commission.

HRCM said that work of the regional office established on 9 November 2014 would be started officially from 15 December 2014 after the opening ceremony.

The mandate of the newly established regional office of HRCM includes fulfilling the responsibilities as stated in HRCM’s Act in Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Seenu, and Gnaviyanu atolls.

Southern Regional Office of HRCM would be carried out in seven departments. Those departments include investigating issues related to human rights, education and training to build a culture that respects human rights, research, monitoring, working with civil society and government and administration.
