Media excluded from Budget Committee meeting

The Budget Committee has decided to hold today’s meeting behind closed doors.

The committee assessing the Projected State Budget for 2015 was scheduled to hold discussions with the Governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), at 11:00 a.m. today.

Media has been allowed in the Budget Committee’s meetings with the MMA Governor in the past.

At today's meeting, the Governor will give her advice and views, and provide recommendations regarding the budget. She will also respond to questions by committee members.

Past years’ Budget Committee meetings with the MMA Governor have been covered extensively by several media groups.

The committee is expected to complete its assessment of the projected budget by 27 November.

The government has proposed a budget worth MVR 24.3 billion, with a forecast income of MVR 21.5 billion, for 2015.
