President nominates Hassan Ziyath for Auditor General post

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has nominated Hassan Ziyath for the post of Auditor General, and sent his name to the parliament for approval.

Four individuals applied for the post of Auditor General following the recent amendment to the Audit Act.

Hassan Ziyath, a chartered accountant, has served in this field for 14 years.

He is the brother of Abdulla Ziyath, managing director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), who has been accused of corruption in an audit report issued last month.

The amendment to the Audit Act stated that the President should nominate an individual for the post of Auditor General and send the name to the parliament for approval, within 30 days from the day the bill is ratified.
