STO assigned to buy 54 ambulances to health ministry

State Trading Organization (STO) has been assigned to buy 54 ambulances to Health Ministry under the effort to ensure health services through an effective land transportation system.

Mohame Nazim, acting Minister of Health and Adam Azim, Managing Director of STO signed the agreement in an event held at Health Ministry on Thursday.

Speaking in the event, Minister Nazim said that four out of 54 ambulances would be used as paramedic ambulances, and among those four ambulances, two ambulances would be operated in Male’ while another two would be operated in Addu City and Laamu atoll.

Minister Nazim noted that those four ambulances would be brought to Maldives after establishing all the facilities that have to be present in paramedic ambulance. Nazim also said that all the ambulances would be brought to Maldives by the beginning of July 2015.

Talking about the distribution of the ambulances, Minister Nazim said that islands have been identified for the allocation of 50 ambulances and priority was given to islands that do not have ambulances at the moment. Minister also highlighted that ambulances in some islands have been damaged and new ambulances would be provided to the islands if the ambulances were in a condition that cannot be repaired.

Minister noted that was a $ 2.5 million and finance for this project has been confirmed.
