Government announces $10,000 reward for information that can lead to Luthfee's arrest

Government has announced a reward of $10,000 for anyone who provides information to police that can lead to the arrest of the criminal, Abdulla Luthfee of H. Haajaraage who has been on the run since he went abroad for a medical treatment.

Home Minister Umar Naseer announced this in the meeting held to celebrate Victory Day at Thaa Dhiyamigili on Monday evening.

“This evening, I would like to announce that our government will offer a reward of $10,000 to anyone who provides information of any kind to police that can lead to the arrest of Abdulla Luthfee of H. Haajaraage,” said Home Minister.

Luthfee joined forces with Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers to attack Maldives and 19 Maldivians were martyred during the attack on 3 November 1988.

Home Minister said that the government’s decision to offer a reward of $10,000 for anyone who provides information to police that can lead to the arrest of the criminal, Abdulla Luthfee, would be announced in India and Sri Lanka as well, and he expected that this decision would help them in arresting Luthfee.

Home Ministry earlier offered a MVR 75,000 reward for information that can lead to Luthfee's arrest .

Minister Umar said that government of former president Mohamed Nasheed played a role in Luthfee's disappearance and that he assumed to arrest Luthfee as a result of $10,000 reward offered this time. Minister Umar said that Luthfee would be imprisoned after arresting to complete the rest of his sentence.

Home Minister said that 3 November has been celebrated as Victory Day almost every year after 1988, however, he noted sadly that this day had not been celebrated in former president Mohamed Nasheed’s government. Minister Umar also noted that the members of opposition party celebrated Victory Day during former president Nasheed’s government.
