Individual arrested with suspected drugs packets

An individual has been arrested from Male’ with five plastic packets containing a substance suspected to be drugs.

Police said that a 29-year-old Maldivian man was arrested at around 7:50 p.m. on Monday regarding the case. He was arrested after five packets containing a substance suspected to be drugs were found in something he threw on the road when he, and an additional man, who were travelling in a motorcycle on Ameeru Ahmed Magu, were stopped by police.

The man arrested over this case has been stopped and questioned 15 times, taken to the police station twice and arrested once before.

Police said that the man who has been arrested has criminal record for violence and a case against him had been sent to Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.

Police said that the case was under investigation by its Drug Enforcement Department.
