Mundhu: 3 November symbolizes the close relations between Maldives and India

Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), Minister at the President’s Office said on Monday that the relationship between Maldives and India has to be written with golden letters on the Victory Day, 3 November every year following victory over mercenaries.

He said this in an address given on the occasion of 26th anniversary of victory over the terrorists who tried to overthrow President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom's government on 3 November 1988 by few treacherous Maldivians in collaboration with People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE).

Mundhu, in his address, recognized and appreciated the significance, closeness, and the assistance provided by Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India following the mercenary attack against Maldives. Mundhu said that 3 November symbolized the closeness and friendliness between India and Maldives.

Mundhu has praised Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, president of Maldives that time, for his wisdom in that critical situation on 3 November 1988. Mundhu said that enemies had to face defeat that day as a result of the instructions given by Maumoon as the Commander-in-Chief of the Maldivian armed forces that day.

19 Maldivians were martyred in the mercenary attack on 3 November 1988.
