Criminal court has given opportunity to present evidences regarding burning three government buildings in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo on the following day former president Mohamed Nasheed has resigned from presidency.
Criminal Court has provided opportunity to the state to present evidences against the suspects regarding terrorism charges in trial held on Sunday and because the suspects denied the charges, they were also given chance to present evidence in their defence. In that regard, court has given duration until 2:30 p.m. of next Sunday to present evidences in written form.
A total of 89 suspects were charged over terrorism in Thinadhoo for having burnt G.Dh Atoll Council Office, Thinadhoo Police Station and Thinadhoo Court.
Trial of more than 70 suspects was carried out in smaller groups from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some of the suspects did not attend the trial including Thinadhoo Council member Abdulla Saneef.
Saudhu Ali of Abuhareege G.Dh Thinadhoo and Gusayyu Abdulla of Sunnydale G.DH Thinadhoo are also members of council who were accused in this case. Two women were also included among the suspects.
Two suspects who were hiding from the court were also brought to Sunday’s trial in custody. They were Ahmed Sodiq Thedhu-uige G.Dh Thinadhoo, an Imam of mosque in Thinadhoo and Mohamed Abdulla of Nooraaneege G.Dh Thinadhoo.
Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed said that an additional hearing of this case would be held on 19 November 2014 and statements from the witnesses presented by the government would be taken that day.
