Maldives Police Services (MPS) directed local media on the particular rise in criminal activity during previous Ramadan periods during the press briefing held at Iskandharu Building. He furthermore called upon the general public to be prepared to counter crimes such as theft, assault and traffic accidents.
Theft is common in the dawn time and the sunset time in the month of Ramadan. Most of the people sleep in the dawn time after the Fajr prayer during Ramadan, and people will be busy at sunset time in breaking fast.
People fear that with the release of 400 inmates during this period will increase the chances of a huge crime rate during this Ramadan. However, on fears of the released convicts contributing to a rise in crime during Ramadan, President’s press secretary Mohamed Zuhair argued that the government had a “proven track record” with its previous programmes.
