Government has decided to hold Youth Day celebrations on the first anniversary of president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s government, 17 November 2014.
Youth Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal said today that president has decided to celebrate Youth Day on 17 November 2014. However, he did not mention the reason for the celebration of Youth Day on that date.
Minister Maleeh said that colourful celebrations will be held for Youth Day, and the official ceremony would be held at Dharubaaruge.
“President has decided 17 November 2014 as Youth Day. So Ministry has decided to hold colourful celebrations to mark this day. Hence, the official ceremony of that day will be held at Dharubaaruge. President will also participate in this ceremony,” said Minister Maleeh.
Minister Maleeh said that Youth Award and the Shield given in the memory of martyr Shaheedh Jawad Umar by the government would be presented to recipients on Youth Day.
“To celebrate this day, Youth Award specially intended for Maldivian youths, Shaheedh Jawad Umar’s Shield as well as Award for Youth Development will be given,” said Minister Maleeh.
Minister Maleeh said that the Youth Award was not given last year due to elections, and last year’s award winners would be given their awards in this year’s ceremony.
Youth Minister said that a special event would be conducted on Youth Day, and in order to keep the audience in suspense, it would be unveiled on Youth Day itself.
