Defence Minister: Local military training has gone through a revolution

Minister of Defence Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim has noted the progress made in the provision of training to Maldivian soldiers, and said that the country’s military training efforts have gone through a revolution.

The minister made this remark while speaking at a function at Kalhuthukkala Koshi on Sunday evening, to unveil the new combat uniform of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

He said that the dependence on foreign countries in this regard has come to an end, as it is now possible to complete the basic course, required by officers who complete basic trainings and commence work in units, in the Maldives.

“We are proud of the fact that today, training required by the military is provided to all officers on Maldivian soil. Military training for the Maldivian military has gone through a revolution,” said Nazim.

He said that this revolution is a result of facilities such as the Coast Guard Marine Corp Composite Training Centre in Lhaviyani Maafilaafushi, where training programs will begin next year.

Nazim said that he was happy to announce that in addition to the numerous military exercises conducted for MNDF officers thus far this year, four exercises have been planned for the remaining months of 2014.
