The police have said that two people were injured on a cargo vessel off West Park, Male’, yesterday, due to the explosion of a gas cylinder in a container onboard the vessel.
The police spokesperson said that the incident took place while a man was welding on the hatch of the vessel. Sun Online has learned that the explosion did not cause a fire.
Police said that the case is under investigation.
Police further said that the two men who were injured in the incident are a second officer, who is a Maldivian; and a welder, who is a foreigner.
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said that the foreigner, who suffered a broken leg, is receiving treatment at the hospital, while the Maldivian has been treated and released from the hospital.
