Agreement signed regarding changing Lale International School to a boarding school

An agreement has been signed with Biz Atoll Private Limited, the existing management of Lale Youth International School (LYIS) in Hulhumale’, to transform it into a boarding school.

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham and Biz Atoll Managing Director Mehmet Akif Erdogan signed the agreement at an event held at Ministry of Education on Thursday.

Replying to a question asked from Sun, Minister said that according to the agreement, Biz Atoll would get the land next to LYIS to build a boarding school, and they would return LYI School building they are using now to the government.

LYIS is now run at a government building previously used as Fareedhiyyaa School.

Minister said that according to the agreement, Biz Atoll is given to run the boarding school for 25 years, and they have to build the school and start teaching in school within next two years. She also said that 10 percent of Maldivian students studying in that school should be given scholarships from that school.

There was no response from the ministry when asked about the land area of the boarding school.

Biz Atoll MD Akif said that this is a milestone to strengthen the relationship between Maldives and Turkey.

LYIS, managed by the Turkish company, was established on 28 June 2008.
