Police advise caution over theft during Eid holidays

With Eid holidays imminent, the police have advised caution over homes being broken into by thieves while owners are away.

Police said in a press release today, “People who are traveling abroad or leaving their houses unattended for long periods, should secure valuable belongings, lock all cupboards and rooms in the house, and inform their absence to a reliable person, as well as to the nearest police post.”

Eid holidays begin tomorrow, Friday; and end on Sunday.

Police have also advised people to close and lock all windows and fanlights to prevent entry by thieves, as well as to take necessary steps to prevent fire incidents – which are on the rise lately - before leaving their homes for long periods.

Patrolling will be stepped up in Male’ and the atolls to ensure security for private property, and to guarantee protection and safety to the people during the holidays, said the police.
