Former Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed has been dismissed from the post of President’s foreign policy advisor, following his appointment as UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran, a high-profile post in the UN system. President Nasheed thanked Dr. Shaheed for the services rendered by him while he was in the government post.
In a meeting held in the president’s office today, Dr. Ahmed Shaheed and President Nasheed discussed about the roles that can be played by the Maldives to solve the human rights issues in the Middle East. Both of them also talked about the importance of discussing in the SAARC summit on establishing a stable human rights policy in the region.
