The government has signed agreements for projects worth MVR 100 million to construct seawalls around four islands.
The agreements, regarding the construction of seawalls around Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Meedhoo, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, and Baa Eydhafushi, were signed at a ceremony at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure today.
The project for Kudahuvadhoo, worth MVR 17.2 million and to be completed in 180 days, was awarded to Capital Investment and Finance.
The projects for Thulusdhoo, Meedhoo, and Eydhafushi are worth MVR 31.2 million, MVR 28.8 million, and MVR 22.8 million respectively; and they should be completed within 2.5 months, one month, and 62 days respectively.
These three projects were awarded to MT Hojgaard.
Housing Ministry said that land reclamation projects were carried out in all four islands earlier this year, and the islands were facing soil erosion due to lack of seawalls.
The seawall projects for these islands were expedited for this reason, the ministry has informed.
Speaking today’s ceremony, Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that the advance payment for these projects will be made from this year’s state budget, but funds will be allocated for these projects in the budget for next year.
