Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Haseena is invited to visit the Maldives to participate in the 17th SAARC summit, to be held from 10th November to 11th November this year in the city of Addu in the Maldives. Visiting Special envoy to the president, Hon. Ibrahim Hussain Zaki handed over the invitation letter to the prime minister in Dhaka.
President Mohamed Nasheed has thanked Bangladesh in the letter, for their help in the preparation for the SAARC summit.
According to the foreign ministry Hon. Zaki also met with the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Dipu Moni and the Maldivian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr. Ahmed Sameer was also present in the meeting.
It is a tradition among the countries of SAARC that the leader of the hosting country of the summit inviting the leaders of the other countries. Up to now, the invitation letters has been sent to India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The letters of invitation was handed over to the leaders of these nations by the special envoy of the president and former secretary general of SAARC Hon. Ibrahim Hussain Zaki.
