Malé city council has registered Malé Nursery land in the name of foreign ministry. Mayor of Malé city Mr. Maizaan Ali Maniku said today that the agricultural nursery located in Sosun Magu was registered to the foreing ministry per their request for building the chancery building of the new Indian High Commission. He also said that if the works of the nursery has to be continued, a land will be given from Hulhumalé or Vilimalé.
“We’ve told them unofficially that if they want, we will provide them with a land from Hulhumalé or Vilimalé for the nursery,” said the Mayor. He said that the land was registered for the foreign ministry a week ago.
The in-charge of the nursery that is managed by the agriculture ministry, Mr. Hamid Ibrahim said that they have been asked by the environment ministry in a letter received last week to vacate the land. He also said that they have asked to provide a space for shifting the materials there. “We don’t know whether it is decided to give another land for the nursery,” said Mr. Hamid.
Media coordinator of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Irushada Abdus Sattar said that the new Indian High Commission will be built by the government of India in the land provided by the government of the Maldives. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now the land is handed over to the Indian High Commission.
