Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that there is no negligence on the part of the government in the efforts to find missing Minivan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
Gayoom made this remark while speaking to reporters at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) on Sunday evening, upon his return from Samoa after attending the 3rd International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
“The government is making great efforts [to find Rilwan]. There is no negligence on the part of any government institution. The efforts are ongoing, expeditiously. I hope the case is solved soon, and they find him safe and sound,” he said.
In a statement issued on 5 September, the police said that efforts are ongoing to send some samples, collected from suspected crime scenes related to Rilwan’s disappearance, abroad for further investigation.
Referring to the conference in Samoa, Gayoom said that discussions were held regarding establishing a system to monitor the level of implementation, of agreements related to sustainable solutions to environmental challenges faced by small island states.
