A high level delegation of the government consists of minister and high level officials went to the island of Thinadhoo in GDh atoll, to discuss on renaming the island name to “Havaruthinadhoo” as per the island council's request and to discuss on the island development plans.
The delegation will meet the people of the island tonight to discuss about the renaming and will announce the corporation formed by the president to work for the development of the island. Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Finance, MPs, state ministers and the president’s press secretary are also in the delegation.
“Havaruthinadhoo” was the island’s name 32 years ago. The name was changed to Thinadhoo by the former president Maumoon Abdul Qayoom on 27th June 1979, while speaking to the people of the island.
