MJA to hold election on 21 September

The Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) has announced that its steering committee election will be held at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, 21 September 2014, at the seminal hall of the Youth Centre.

In an announcement published today, MJA has urged members to be present at the venue early, as entrance will be closed 15 minutes prior to the start of the meeting.

MJA has invited members interested in contesting for steering committee posts for the upcoming two years, to submit application letters before noon on 11 September.

The association said that if a member fails to meet this deadline, he would be given the opportunity to put his name forward for election during the meeting on 21 September.

MJA also said that in the event that a member’s name is put forward for election by another person, the member must announce during the meeting that he has no objections to contesting in the election.

MJA has made three attempts to hold its steering committee election, without success. All three meetings were obstructed and stopped by a group that protested against the organisation of the election.
