Maldivian commences seaplane service to Haa Alifu Atoll

National airline, Maldivian, has commenced seaplane flights to Haa Alifu Atoll in northern Maldives.

Managing Director of Island Aviation Abdul Haris said that two flights will be operated weekly to Manafaru Resort in Haa Alifu Atoll, and that sale of tickets to Maldivians will begin next week.

Maldivian has also commenced seaplane operations to Thaa Atoll.

Haris said that efforts are ongoing to commence flights to two additional atolls, and discussions in this regard are ongoing with resorts.

Maldivian has two seaplane aircraft in its fleet, and plans to purchase two more, said Haris.

The national carrier brought its first DHC6 Twin Otter Aircraft in April and the second plane of the same model in June.

Maldivian commenced efforts to provide a seaplane service in October 2013.
