Agreement signed regarding handover of MVR 29 million received by Gaza fund

The agreement regarding the handover of the MVR 29,461,947.65 ($1.91 million) received by the Help Gaza Telethon organised by media organisations, and the Gaza Fund Maldives organised by the Adhaalath Party, has been signed with Qatar Red Crescent on Wednesday evening.

At the ceremony held at the Television Maldives, the symbolic cheque was handed over to President of Qatar Red Crescent Dr Mohamed Bin Ghanim Al Maadeed by Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Help Gaza Telethon and Chairman of Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Ibrahim Umar Manik and Chairman of Gaza Fund Maldives and President of Adhaalath Party Imran Abdulla. The three officials also signed an agreement regarding the purpose for which the money should be utilised.

The Help Gaza Telethon Steering Committee has said that the money should be used to provide clean water, food, and medicine to the people in need in Gaza. The committee has also said that the items bought using this money should be marked with the Maldivian flag or the Maldivian national emblem, to indicate that the items were donated to Gaza by the people of Maldives.

The MVR 29 million received as donations to the Gaza fund consists of MVR 23.16 million received by the Help Gaza Telethon organised by Maldivian media organizations, and the MVR 6.3 million received by the Gaza Fund Maldives.

The fund-raising effort saw tremendous nation-wide support, and the record collection of MVR 29 million amounts to $5 per person in the Maldives.
