The parliament has approved the five individuals nominated to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the parliament sitting today, incumbent President of the ACC Hassan Luthfy received 75 votes, while incumbent Vice President of the ACC Muavviz Rasheed received 74 votes, in favour of being appointed to the ACC for an additional five-year term.
The three remaining nominees, Aminath Minna, Yazmeedh Mohamed, and Safwath Mohamed received 74, 73, and 75 votes respectively.
The five nominations were sent to the parliament for voting following evaluation and approval by the parliament Committee on Independent Institutions.
In addition to the president and vice president, the three remaining incumbent members of the ACC, Mohamed Shafeeu, Abdulla Hilmy, and Khadeeja Rasheed also applied for ACC membership for the coming five-year term. They were however not nominated by the President.
