JP issues three-line whip to pass SEZ bill

Jumhooree Party (JP), which is no longer part of the government alliance, has issued a three-line whip in favour of passing the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Bill.

Deputy Parliamentary Group Leader of JP Abdulla Riyaz told Sun Online that the party has issued a three-line whip in favour of passing ten amendments proposed to the bill by JP, and a pre-whip in favour of passing the amendments proposed by other parties.

He said that several parliamentary group members of ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) have assured support for some of the amendments proposed by JP.

JP parliamentary group comprises 12 members, while PPM has 43 members, and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), included in the government alliance, has five members.
