State offices and companies have been requested to send information on saved documents dated 1988 and earlier to the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, the oversight body of the National Archives Office.
The ministry said in a recent circular, that in addition to establishing a system to maintain these records, the purpose of these efforts also includes solving the problem of lack of space faced by many state offices.
The National Archives Act, enforced in 2011, requires state offices, institutions, and companies to save and maintain important documents for a period of 25 years; after which, information on the maintenance of those records should be handed over to the National Archives Office.
