Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka Professor G. L. Peiris has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, President Dr Mohamed Waheed talked about the current political situation in the Maldives.

The President stressed that this is the chance to consolidate democracy in the Maldives, and highlighted the challenges faced in stabilising the country’s economy.

Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister conveyed greetings from the Sri Lankan President Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa. He also conveyed President Rajapaksa’s assurance that Sri Lanka will continue to assist and cooperate with the Maldives.
