Civil Court has rejected the case filed by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) following the Police and Military raid on MDP camp set up at Raalhugan’du area, by citing that MDP Interim Chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik has no authority to sign the case filed to Court.
The ruling issued by Civil Court Judge Aisha Shujoon Mohamed stated that MDP had not submitted any document indicating that Moosa Manik has the authority to file a case to Court.
It also states that MDP’s Gaumee Majlis meeting records of 18 June 2011, which were submitted to Court, indicates that work was underway to appoint an Interim Chairperson – however no record of the appointment of an Interim Chairperson were submitted to Court.
The Court rejected the case based on the fact that MDP had not authorised Moosa Manik to file a case to Court on behalf of the party.
MDP was represented in Court by former Legal Secretary of President’s Office Hisan Hassan, former Youth Minister Hassan Latheef, Nasheed’s political advisor Ibrahim Ismail, MDP Legal Committee’s Secretary General Ahmed Abdulla Afeef and member of MDP Legal Committee Abdullah Shair.
According to Police and Military, the raid on MDP camp area at Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu was conducted following complains that illegal activities took place at the camp.
MDP said that the case will be filed to Court again tomorrow, this time with the signature of the party’s President Dr Ibrahim Didi.
