Rainwater harvesting component established in Dhuvaafaru

A rainwater harvesting component for the collection and storage of drinking water for the locals of Raa Dhuvaafaru has been established on the island.

Speaking after inaugurating the system on Thursday, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim said that the system will reduce the cost of providing drinking water to the people of Dhuvaafaru by 35 to 40 percent.

The government buildings on the island have been linked together by the rainwater harvesting component to collect rainwater, and will serve in conjunction with an existing desalination plant to provide drinking water to the people Dhuvaafaru.

The component was constructed under a project handed over to Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) on 10 December 2013 to establish a 50 ton Reverse Osmosis plant and a 12-kilometer water network on Dhuvaafaru.
