Help Gaza Telethon, a 33-hour 30 minute fund raising drive organized by Maldivian media organizations to raise money for the Muslims suffering under Israeli aggression in Gaza, has started at 2:30 p.m. today.
The telethon was kicked off with donations made by six children at a special show participated by Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla and telethon steering committee members, held at TVM Studio One this afternoon.
People who wish to donate to the cause can make contributions at special Bank of Maldives (BML) and Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) desks set up at Television Maldives (TVM) station in Male’. Contributions can be made in cash, in bank cheques, as well as through Point of Sales (POS) machines set up at the desks, the organizers have said.
A number of political parties, public and private companies, government offices and organizations have endorsed the fund raising effort. Some organizations and institutions have also urged contributions from their staff by donating one day each individual's salary.
The telethon will run from 2:30 p.m. today until 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, and will carry the hashtag #HelpGazaMv.
