Parliament has today passed a bill to dissolve the law governing the allocation of salaries and allowances to Members of the Parliament and Members of the Special Majlis.
The bill was passed unanimously with votes in favour by 70 MPs who participated in the vote today.
The bill states that the law on allocation of salaries to MPs and members of the Special Majlis is currently unnecessary as the Special Majlis - which is convened to review the constitution - is not in session, and also because Article 102 of the Constitution allows the parliament to determine the salary and allowances for Members of the Parliament.
Parliament also debated today the report by Public Accounts Committee, recommending the changes sought by the government to re-allocate some of the funds designated to construct 1,500 housing units in four southern atolls, to construct 704 housing units in Hulhumale', from a loan taken from China’s Exim Bank.
