STO resumes wholesale of onions, eggs, potatoes

Government’s wholesale and retail company State Trading Organization (STO) has resumed the wholesale of onions, eggs and potatoes after a disruption over a shortage of supply in Ramadan.

Following the arrival of the new shipment, the products are now available for wholesale buyers from STO Head Office storehouse and the company’s number 7 storehouse in Ameenee Magu.

Adam Azim, Managing Director of STO told Sun Online earlier that the price of onion and potato from STO will not increase above MVR 10 per kilogram and that the company will not increase the price of egg above MVR 1.25 during Ramadan.

The new shipment includes 20,000 cartons of eggs, 20,000 sacks of onions and 5,000 sacks of potatoes. STO sells onions and potatoes at a wholesale price of MVR 225 and a carton of eggs for MVR 250.

STO has promised to maintain a steady supply and to sell the products without restrictions during Ramadan.
