Prosecutor General candidates Maumoon Hameed and Judge Muhthaz Muhsin were rejected by the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions after failing to attain the required score from the committee evaluation.
The two candidates were interviewed by the committee on Thursday. A minimum score 75 percent is required to stand for a recommendation from the committee.
A member of the Committee on Independent Institutions told Sun Online on Monday that Criminal Court Judge Muhthaz Muhsin gained 67 precent, and that well-known lawyer Maumoon Hameed gained 33 percent from the evaluation.
The evaluation was based on qualification, experience, competency, skill, integrity, management skills, achievements and leadership qualities.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom nominated Maumoon Hameed to the previous parliament on 10 December last year. However, Maumoon Hameed gained 67.06 percent from the committee evaluation and was rejected by the parliament for failing to secure a committee recommendation.
