A group of 50 pilgrims from Hajj Corporation Limited has departed today to Saudi Arabia for the Ramadan Umrah pilgrimage.

Dr Aishath Muneeza, speaking on behalf of Hajj Corporation said the group, comprised of 16 women and 34 men, including 4 assistants, departed from Maldives on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight at 9:20 a.m.

“The package is the cheapest to make the Umrah pilgrimage this year. We don’t collect a seperate fee for visa, but some other hajj groups do,” said Muneeza. Hajj Corporation charges each pilgrim MVR 34,850 for the Umrah trip.

Hajj Corporation has arranged accommodation for the group in Al Barakah Hotel in Mecca, about a 5-minute walk away from Masjid al-Haram. The package also includes a tour of sites in Madinah at the end of the trip.

The group is scheduled to return to the Maldives on 29 July.
