Parliament committee interviews PG nominees

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has interviewed Maumoon Hameed and Judge Muhthaz Muhsin, nominated by the President for the Prosecutor General post.

A member of the Committee on Independent Institutions told Sun Online that all members of the committee interviewed the nominees individually during a meeting on Thursday night.

President Yameen nominated Maumoon Hameed to the 17th parliament on 10 December last year. However, the nomination was rejected by the previous parliament in which the opposition held majority.

Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem carried out Prosecutor General’s responsibilities since PG Ahmed Muizzu resigned on 25 November last year. Shameem resigned on 5 May, leaving both the PG and DPG positions vacant.
